Wendell Gilbert Evans was born in Bokchito, Oklahoma in August 7, 1944. He left this life to be with Jesus on May 12, 2019 after a long illness.
He attended school in Cleveland, Oklahoma as well as Osage, Mound Valley and Hominy schools in Oklahoma. He worked as a cowboy on different ranches around Osage County. He also worked in several sale barns, being the yard manager at Fairfax, Hominy and Bristow. He loved sitting on the back of a horse. At one point in life, he had his own fencing company, building many miles of fence around Pawnee and Osage County. Wendell built the fence around Skiatook Lake and laid rock at Keystone Lake.
In 1993, Wendell went to work for Pawnee County District #2, retiring in 2004. On September 4, 1993, Wendell united in marriage with Pauletta Fenley. Some of his favorite pastimes include training and trading horses, raising goats, and going to estate and farm sales with his buddies; Buster Dallas and Roger Price. They always had great tales to tell. Wendell loved listening to old country music, gospel music, and watching RFD-TV.
Family described Wendell as a wonderful loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was always happier when the kids and grandkids were around.
Survivors include wife, Pauletta of the home, four children Terry Swart, Jr. and his wife Patti of Morrison, Oklahoma, Wendell H. Evans of Edmond, Oklahoma, Mary Peckenpaugh and her husband Lee of Skedee, Oklahoma, Wendy Mullin and her husband Lynn of Stillwater, Oklahoma; two sisters Wanda Maker of Hominy, Oklahoma, Lola Burwell and her husband Dewey of Jones, Oklahoma, one brother Jim Evans of Hominy, Oklahoma; in laws Ron Tannahill and Elaine of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Paul Fenley, Jr. of Bakersfield, California; six grandchildren Austin Mullin, Trentley Mullin, Whittney Mullin, Levi Peckenpaugh, Staff Sergeant Allison Swart, USAF, Landon Swart; and two great-grandchildren Liam Nevarez, Maribel Collen Espinosa. Preceding him in death are his parents, Gilbert and Elsie Evans; a grandson, Holden Peckenpaugh; 4 siblings; and his in-laws, Marie and Paul Findley.
Graveside services will be held, at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 20, 2019 at Highland Cemetery in Pawnee, Oklahoma with Pastor Robert Smith officiating. Pallbearers are Roger Price, Buster Dallas, Gary Pogue, Sam Metcalf, Wendell Braden, Ron Tannahill, Trentley Mullin, DeAn Sellers, Dena Ray Bass, Devon Brown, Ashley Walker and Brandie Shipp. Friends can share a memory online at www.poteetfuneralhome.com
