Sidney Hostutler

Sidney Ray Hostutler passed from this life June 1, 2024, at the age of 86 at Cleveland Manor Nursing Home in Cleveland, ОК. Sidney, lovingly referred to as Sid, was born December 3, 1937, in Pawnee, Oklahoma to Bert and Gladys Hostutler. He attended school at Pawnee Public Schools. On his first day of elementary school, Sid was thrown from a horse and sustained injuries that kept him out all year. His determination and endurance were displayed after his recovery as he had to learn to walk again. Sid enjoyed fishing, reading Western novels, dominoes, and country and western music. He was a church member at Abundant Life Church in Westport, OK, and enjoyed regularly attending services when he was physically able, almost always with at least one visitor in tow. He was known for his love of outdoor work and enjoyed clearing cedar trees and keeping the land free from purple thistle bushes. He also greatly enjoyed his additional work with cattle and farming. His love for the outdoors was not only prominent within his work life, but within his hobbies as well. Sid always kept a very large garden and didn't allow weeds to get to the plants by placing carpet pieces between the rows. Caring for his pecan trees brought him joy and he spent much time picking up pecans from them. After moving to Cleveland Manor, he still found nearby pecan trees where he could go pick up pecans, his love for them continually evident. Even when he was no longer able to bend over, he would still sit on the ground and spend time picking pecans up, bagging them, and eating them. Sid is preceded in death by his parents Bert and Gladys Hostutler, brothers J.D. Hostutler, Ralph Hostutler, and Gene Hostutler, as well as one sister, Alice June Kelly. He is survived by daughters Maudie Wing and Ellie Kelley and husband Wallace Kelley, grandchildren Lanie Kelley, Phillip Kelley, Jason LeForce Jr., and Robin McAlister, as well as 9 great grandchildren. He is also survived by nephew J. D. and Jane Hostutler, as well as niece Cynthia and Jim Johnston, along with other family and friends. Services are scheduled for Friday, June 7, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Poteet Funeral Home in Pawnee, OK, with interment at Union Cemetery in Glencoe following the service.
