Shawn Renee Reed was born the eldest daughter of four children to Jack and Debra Waters on November 13, 1970 in Edmond, Oklahoma. She was born and raised in Oklahoma, and later moved to the Dallas area where she resided for the past 19 years. It is there where she raised her three daughters, Rachael Elizabeth, Rebecca Lee, and Sarah MacKenzie as well as her two sons, Anthony Thomas and Ashton Cole alongside former husband Aaron Reed. She loved her five children dearly, was fond of son-in-law Phil Forti, and adored her two young granddaughters, Amelia June and Hannah Beth Forti. At the time of her death, she was looking forward to starting a new chapter with fiance Kevin Moore of Denton, Texas.
Shawn had a passion for working with children and families, which led her to complete her Master’s degree in Human Relations at the University of Oklahoma. She practiced for over twenty years as a licensed professional counselor, and was an avid advocate for adolescents and children from within the foster care system. Beyond her career, Shawn was very passionate about travel. Alongside her family, she enjoyed visiting different countries and many national parks and landmarks across the United States.
Despite the hardships in her life, Shawn’s faith held strong and her belief in the Lord brought her great comfort and peace during her final days on Earth. Shawn is survived by her five children and two grandchildren, along with father Jack Waters Jr., brothers Loren Parker Waters and Jack Dell Waters III, and sister Sharon Lee Curtis. She is preceded in death only five months prior by her mother Debra Lee Waters. She went home to the Lord the evening of Sunday, April 24th 2022, surrounded by her children and others who knew and loved her. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, April 30 at Poteet Funeral Home in Pawnee, Oklahoma with close friend Scot Trower officiating, burial will follow in the Highland Cemetery.
