Ruby Jean Woodward was born April 7, 1929 in Prague, Oklahoma to Earl and Jane Burgess. Ruby left this earthly life to spend eternity with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ February 5, 2019 at the age of 89.
Ruby grew up in Stillwell and graduated from Stillwell High School. She then met and married Arl (Woody) Woodward, and they were united in marriage on December 26, 1948. They made their home in Pawnee, Oklahoma where they began their family of two sons, Darrell and Terry and a daughter Connie.
After moving to Pawnee, Ruby became a member of the First Baptist Church in Pawnee. Her enjoyment and love of serving the Church led Ruby to becoming the Church secretary, a job of love she held for 20 years before retiring. Ruby loved gospel music and singing for the Lord. When Ruby was unable to attended church, because of her health, she would listen to services on television not only on Sunday, but throughout the week.
Ruby had many hobbies which included cooking, sewing, stitching, quilting, and embroidery. Ruby also greatly enjoyed; growing plants and flowers of all kinds. She truly had a “green thumb”.
She enjoyed singing in the Church Choir and occasionally partnering with friends, Mary Fugate and Carol Stephens to sing for friend’s funerals.
Ruby spent the last 4 ½ years of her life at Southern Oaks Care Center in Pawnee and was given so much love by the administration and staff that took care of her needs. Ruby enjoyed keeping up with friends and relatives by phone or Facebook. She especially enjoyed visiting with fellow residents at Southern Oaks, and anyone that would happen by. Also would like to say how much the family appreciated the kind, loving and professional care she received from the staff of Karman Legacy Hospice.
Ruby is survived by two sons and a daughter. Darrell Woodward and his wife Darlene of Pawnee; Terry Woodward and his wife Rita of Shawnee; and daughter Connie Privett of Pawnee.
