Nehemiah 'Mimi' Opal Jayne Peterman
June 16, 2014 - November 27, 2019
Nehemiah Opal Jayne Peterman known as 'Mimi' to her family and friends passed away peacefully on the evening of Wednesday, November 27, 2019, at five years and four months of age in Pawnee, Oklahoma, at her home surrounded by her family.
Born on June 16, 2014, in Oklahoma City, OK, to Jessie (Pratt) Peterman and Mark Peterman, Mimi was a citizen of the Wichita and Affiliated Tribes. In addition to Wichita, Mimi was a descendant of the Pawnee Nation, Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma, Cherokee Nation, Omaha Tribe of Nebraska, Ponca Tribe of Oklahoma, and Otoe-Missouria Tribe. Mimi was born of a rich Tribal heritage from many cultures and a direct descendant of Ioway Chief and Reverend Solomon Kent.
Although Mimi was born with Miller-Dieker Syndrome and Lissencephaly, she was only expected to live for one year, she was a warrior who was constantly lifted up in prayer and surrounded by love. As the center of her family, her big smile amassed a large social media following of prayer warriors. Her family wants everyone to know that she smiled even when faced with extended hospital stays and surgeries.
Mimi is proceeded in death by her brother, Isaiah Garcia, her maternal grandfather, James Charles Pratt, maternal great-grandmothers Ophelia Pratt and Sue Lee Alexander, and maternal great-great-grandmother, Iva Peters Pratt, affectionately known throughout Indian Country as Grandma Ivy, great-great grandmother Opal Rogers, and uncle Abraham Wahkinney
Mimi is survived by her parents, Mark and Jessie (Pratt) Peterman and her siblings Messinah and Tichii Funta "Gavin" Peterman of Pawnee, OK. In addition, Mimi is survived by her paternal great-grandparents, Fred and Karen Peterman, of Perry, OK, her maternal grandmother, Brenda Rowe, of Pawnee, OK, great-grandfather Willard Pratt, her maternal Aunt Jamie Rowe, of Stillwater, OK, her maternal Uncle and Aunt, Terry and Natalie Pratt, of Sand Springs, OK, her maternal Uncle and Aunt, Joseph and Carolee Pratt, of Red Rock, OK, and paternal Great Uncle and Aunt, Roger and Jo Beth Peterman, of Missouri.
Pallbearers are Joseph Pratt, Viento Joey Rowe, Joshua Wahkinney, and Brandon Powell. Honorary Pallbearers are Terry Pratt, David Powell, Jimmy Rowe, Sr., Jacob Rowe, and Jake Leading Fox.
Special thanks from Mimi's family to the Victory Christian Center in Tulsa for baptizing Mimi Easter of 2019 and bringing her into their church family. The family appreciates all of the prayers warriors who extended Mimi's life and contributed to her quality of life through God's grace. 'Aho' (Thank you in Pawnee) to Physician's Assistant Seth Cookerly at the Perkins Family Clinic for the 24/7 care and personal attention to Mimi's unique and difficult medical needs throughout her life. Another special thank you from the family to Mimi's extra sister, Chelsea, Maples, who care for Mimi as her own when the family needed an extra hand. The St. Francis Children's Hospital in Tulsa and their entire medical team are to be commended for the care they provided Mimi throughout her life, as well, when her condition was critical. Oakland Children's Hospital in California will never be forgotten when Mimi needed emergency surgery and ensuring she was able to come home to Pawnee.
