Merlene "Merl" Dee Brotherton was born Saturday, Oct. 22, 1949, in Fairfax, OK to Raymond Edward and Clarene Imogene (Johnson) Brotherton. Merl graduated from Ralston Highschool in 1968. She then furthered her schooling and received a degree in business. Merl worked many different jobs over the years, but she is best known for her work at IGA, Whites, and Williams in Pawnee, OK; she retired from Williams in May 2020.
In her free time, Merl loved to shop online, do arts and crafts, and spend time with her cats. Merl had a very sassy personality, but she never met a stranger. She loved to visit with her many friends in Pawnee and the surrounding area. She always had great advice for all those who were brave enough to ask and were willing to listen. Merl loved to entertain friends with her many stories, including that she "knew where the bodies were buried."
Merl passed away Friday, May 21st, 2021 peacefully and surrounded by her friends. Survived by two nephews Philip Brotherton of Cache, Ok. and Josh Brotherton of Ponca city ok., and other family members. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Sandra Kay Brotherton and by her brother, Phil Ray Brotherton. Services will be held in remembrance of Merl at 2:00 PM on May 28th at Riverside Cemetery in Ralston OK.
