Melvin Y. Griesel, known by his friends and family as Bob, was born September 1st, 1923 in Pawnee, OK at the family farm south of town. He was the youngest of William & Effie (Cox) Griesel’s 6 children. Bob passed from this life on Friday, October 26th, 2018 in Pawnee, OK having reached the age of 95 years.
Bob attended Prosperity School through 8th grade & then went to Pawnee High School & graduated in 1940. He married Betty Gentry on April 26th, 1947 and moved south of town where they made their home for 71 years. They raised 2 daughters, Janis & Ginny. Bob was a member of the First Baptist Church, Pawnee.
He worked hard on the farm from the time he was 16 until he was 93 years old. He taught his only grandson all about farming & they shared a special bond. He loved spending time raising his cattle and helping his grandkids with their show animals.
Bob loved to be around his family. He always made you feel welcomed as family. He was known to always be laughing and teasing everyone. His family was his was pride and joy! He loved joking with his grandchildren and teaching them to “play” checkers. He enjoyed being at every ball game and activities that kids were involved in. He didn’t want to miss a moment with his family!
Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Betty Griesel, 2 daughters & their spouses; Janis & Ralph Jones of Perry, Ginny & Kendal Dvorak of Pawnee; 6 grandchildren & spouses: Katy and Scott Boyle of Edmond,OK, Kendra Dvorak of Pawnee,OK, Timmy and Melissa Dvorak of Pawnee,OK, Tori and Russ Furgason of Jacksonville,FL , Amber and Adam Grant of Stillwater, OK, Lindsay and Cory Barrett of Pawnee, OK 12 great grandchildren: Lydia & Caraline Boyle, Kylie & Keilee Castleberry, Jaylee & Finlee Dvorak, Lana & Sadie Furgason, Cagle & Gentry Grant & Kynzie & Ava Jayne Barrett and numerous nieces and nephews .
Bob was greeted in heaven by parents, his siblings, Ethel Berg, Leroy Griesel, Elizabeth Baker, Thelma Meeker, and Dan Griesel, and a great granddaughter, Addyson Barrett.
Celebration of Bob’s life will be Thursday November 1st, at 2pm at Eshelman Memorial Chapel, Highland Cemetery in Pawnee, OK. Senior Adult Minister Chan Ray and Pastor John Coker will officiate, burial will follow in the Highland Cemetery Pawnee, Oklahoma. Services were entrusted to the Poteet Funeral Home and Cremation Services, friends can leave a memory for the family at www.poteetfuneralhome.com
