MARK CARL FUSS

December 30th, 1944 - April 18th 2025

Mark Carl Fuss entered into God’s rest April 18th, 2025, at his home in Lone Chimney, Oklahoma in Pawnee County. His family was with him. Mark was born in Pawnee on December 30th, 1944, to Carl Franklyn and Carmelita (Davis) Fuss. He was a lifetime resident of rural Pawnee County, except for a five-year period when he lived in the Houston and Dallas, Texas area in the late 1960’s.

Mark attended several rural schools throughout his elementary years; high school years concluded with graduating from Glencoe High School in 1964 where he lettered in baseball and basketball. Being active in FFA with various projects, Mark was awarded the State Star Farmer degree in Vocational Agriculture.

Mark had two daughters, Carla Suzann Fuss and Kathy Deeann Fuss. On February 26, 1972, Mark married Connie May Henderson in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma. From their marriage came two sons, Matthew Creed Fuss, and Daniel Davis Fuss. Mark and Connie raised all four children together on their farm/ranch.

Mark’s primary occupation was farming and ranching on owned and leased land in southern Pawnee County. He worked outside jobs to supplement farming and ranching, including a factory job at Swan Rubber in Stillwater, maintenance and mechanic for Oklahoma Turnpike Authority, and an oil well pumper on leases in Pawnee and Payne County.

Mark was awarded the Pawnee County Cattlemen’s Association, Hall of Fame Honor as Cattleman of the year in October 2023. He was active in various positions within Pawnee County; Farm Service Agency, 4-H & FFA Booster Club, and Rural Fire Association Board. He was a member of the Pawnee Public School Board for five years.

Mark was one of the first trustees and instrumental in establishing the Town of Lone Chimney. He was the second mayor of Lone Chimney, as the Honorable Mayor Fuss. He was honored in October 2024 for having served as trustee from 1994-2024.

Mark is a member of the First Baptist Church, Pawnee. He is still remembered by a group of teenage boys, now men, that he taught in Sunday school. He would invite them to Sunday lunch and show them how to reload ammunition for hunting game. Mark loved the Lord and he loved his family very much. Family time was important to him. He leaves a great legacy of love for family and how time with loved ones was

important. His face would light up whenever his grandchildren and great grandchildren would visit. He made a point to make each one feel special!

Mark loved hunting with friends and family. Deer, Elk, Turkey, Quail, Pheasant, Rabbits, Squirrels-- it didn’t matter what hunting season it was; he loved to hunt. Opening day deer season was considered a holiday to both Mark and the entire Fuss family. The house was full of friends and family, plotting where to hunt. Mark had a talent for coordinating the hunters and ensuring all were able to be placed in a location to find their big buck. Mark took great pride in ensuring all were fed before the hunt began, and his wife Connie would prepare a big breakfast for all! When it wasn’t hunting season, he loved to go target shooting and sighting in rifles with whomever wanted to go along for the journey. Mark celebrated the hunting victories of family and friends and wanted all to succeed.

Mark is survived by his wife of 53 years, Connie May Fuss; his daughters Carla Cummings and Dennis, of Perkins; Kathy Fuss of Durant, and his sons Matthew Fuss of Pawnee, and Daniel Fuss and Jessie of Pawnee. Mark is also survived by his all of his favorite grandchildren: Jacob Hart and Hannah, Heath Blair and Laura, Caleb Hart, Landry Fuss, and Creed Fuss. Mark’s greatest treasures included five great grandchildren: Emma, Charlie and Maverick Hart; Wesley Clovis; and Hadi Blair. He is also survived by his brother Philip Fuss of Maramec; and his special niece and close neighbor, Karen Flora. Mark loved all of his numerous nieces and nephews.
