Louis Albert Meissner

Louis Albert Meissner, 85, passed into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016. Mr. Meissner was born March 9, 1931, near Skedee, Okla., to Herman and Cardella (Pittser) Meissner. He spent his childhood in Pawnee County, Okla., and graduated from Pawnee High School in 1949.Mr. Meissner earned his Bachelor of Science degree in agricultural education from Oklahoma A&M. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1953, serving in the 10th Medium Tank Battalion at Ft. Chaffee, Ark. He married Carol Ellington of Maramec, Okla., on Oct. 4, 1953.Meissner returned to Oklahoma A&M in 1955 to complete his Master of Science degree. He and his wife then joined Oklahoma State University's partnership with the Point 4 Program, to open a school and agricultural college Ethiopia. He was assigned to the technical school in Jimma, where he taught woodworking and horticulture. He returned to the United States in 1961, moving to Columbus, Neb., working for the Cargill Corporation.  He became a charter faculty member for the newly-opened Platte Technical Community in 1969. He then opened his cash grain business in 1973. He retired in 1988 and returned to Pawnee, Okla., to a home located just two miles north of where he spent his childhood.  He moved to Stillwater, Okla., in 1996.He recently celebrated 63 years of marriage to his wife, Carol, who survives him along with two daughters, Luann (husband Bill) Menke, of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Marilee Meissner of Stillwater; two sons, Don Meissner of Dallas, Texas, and Eric (wife Melissa) of Sioux Falls; a brother, Wayne Meissner of Lathrop, Calif., two granddaughters, Rachel Menke of Columbus, Neb., and Erin Meissner of Sioux Falls.He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Charley, Raymond, Quentine Ray, and Elmer; and his grandson, Jordan Meissner.Services are at Poteet Funeral Home Friday, Oct. 21, at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Bruce Parnell officiating.While flowers are beautiful and appreciated, the family suggests memorial donations be directed to Stillwater Life Services, or to Stillwater VFW Post 2027 flag fund.
