Karen Sue Sallee was born October 23, 1942 in Ponca City to Elton and Millie Henderson. Sue graduated from Red Rock High School in 1960. She attended the Ponca City Business School and moved to Pawnee to work for Judge McNeil.
Sue began working with Pawnee National Bank on February 1, 1964, serving several capacities and later becoming Vice President/Director. Sue also continued her education during this time, graduating from the Wisconsin School of Banking, and later receiving a certificate from Vanderbilt University School of Investments.
Sue retired as Vice President of Armstrong Bank-Pawnee Branch in January of 2014. Throughout a distinguished career of 50 years in banking, Sue developed many lifelong friendships with co-workers and important relationships within the community. She also served on the Pawnee Chamber of Commerce.
Sue married Johnnie Sallee August 25, 1975, and they raised their son, Duane Freeny on their farm in Pawnee. Sue enjoyed cooking for family and friends and attending all of Duane’s football and basketball games, and later enjoyed attending her grandson’s football games at Stillwater schools and recently at Northwestern Oklahoma State University,
Sue is survived by her husband, Johnnie Sallee of the home, her son Duane Freeny and wife Angie of Stillwater, grandson Jake Freeny of Stillwater, niece Heather Henderson and daughter Abby Cole of Owasso, siblings, Linda Kay Burgen, of Seneca, MO, Joyce Marie Spoonemore, of Joplin, MO, Cindy Lou Henderson-Clark, of Ponca City, sister-in-law, Barbara Henderson, of Versailles, MO., and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, family members and friends.
Sue is preceded in death by her parents, Elton and Millie Henderson, brother Larry Henderson, sister, Patsy Henderson Sherrill, and brother Bennie Ray Henderson.
