June Brensing Tucker
Born on May 30, in Skedee, Oklahoma, to Nelson and Opal Brensing, June Brensing Tucker lived a life of service, love, and adventure. She joined the party in heaven on October 15, 2024. She attended elementary school in Skedee and graduated from high school in 1949. Following her passion for healthcare, she began Nurses Training at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa in 1950. After completing her training, June worked in the Operating Room before moving to New Orleans, Louisiana, where she served in the Miles Operating Suite at Charity Hospital. There, she pursued further education at the Charity Hospital School of Anesthesia, eventually working at Mercy Hospital as a staff anesthetist.
June’s career took her back to Tulsa as a locum tenens anesthetist, and later to Fayetteville, Arkansas, where she began a fulfilling role with the Veterans Administration. Her dedication to veteran care led her to the VA Medical Center in Oklahoma City, where she became Chief Anesthetist. Throughout her career, June was deeply involved with the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, Oklahoma Association of Nurse Anesthetists, and the Association of Veteran's Administration Nurse Anesthetists. She found immense joy in her profession, especially in caring for veteran patients and mentoring residents through the Oklahoma University Anesthesia Training Program.
On February 6, 1971, June married Dr. Kenneth Tucker, embracing his children, Susan and Michael, as her own. The couple settled in northwest Oklahoma City, where June became an active member of Village United Methodist Church. Her faith and commitment to service fueled her passion for mission work, leading her to participate in several Volunteer-in-Mission trips and serving multiple times with the Appalachian Service Project.
In addition to her professional and religious pursuits, June had a wide range of personal interests. She was involved in numerous organizations, including the Oklahoma Rose Society, Apogan Iris Club, Oklahoma Horticulture Society, Oklahoma Water Garden Society, Christian Women's Club, and Oklahoma City Orchestra League. She and Ken were also active participants in the Amway business, through which they made lifelong friends and traveled to many wonderful places.
In 2009, June and Ken moved to Pawnee, Oklahoma to return to her roots and enjoy retirement and their family members nearby. They continued to make frequent trips to the OKC metro to visit loved ones, and discovered countless new friends and hobbies in the Pawnee area as well. June became active in the PEO, Pawnee First United Methodist Church, The Pawnee Bill Ranch and Museum, and The “Bored of Directors” book club.
June had a deep love for music, although she claimed no musical talent herself. She and Ken were avid supporters of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as the McKnight center in Stillwater. She loved reading, gardening, hosting gatherings with friends, and traveling. Her joy for life was evident in all she did, especially in her devotion to her churches, where she loved to serve in any way she could. June also had a constant canine companion in her life, always toting them with her and sharing them with everyone around her.
June was preceded in death by her parents, Nelson and Opal Brensing, and her paternal and maternal grandparents, brother Nelson Brensing Jr., sisters-in-law Rita Brensing and Paula Brensing, and the love of her life Kenneth Tucker. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and David Carruth, and grandchildren Andrew (Taylor) Carruth and Amy (Jeff) Craighead of Norman, Oklahoma; son Michael Tucker and grandchildren Jonathan Tucker and Stephanie (Blake) Boston of Kyle, Texas. She is also survived by her brothers Henry H. Brensing (Becky) of Montgomery, Alabama, Arthur Joe Brensing of Drumright, Oklahoma, and sister-in-law Helen Brensing. In addition, she poured her love into many special nieces and nephews that she treated like her own children, as well as cherished great grandchildren, cousins, and friends.
Her life was be celebrated on October 18, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church of Pawnee before she is laid to rest with Ken at the Highland Cemetery. Donations to honor her life can be made to the Oklahoma Circle of Care. June lived life with an open heart, endless enthusiasm and the perfect amount of spice. Her warmth, generosity, and love for others will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
