Geneva Ruth Horsechief

Geneva Ruth Horsechief was born on April 19, 1937, to Jess T and Mary Ann (King) Rogers in Salina, Oklahoma, passing away September 6, 2022. A Citizen of the Cherokee Tribe, she was sent to Indian boarding school, then completed her education at Chilocco Indian school. After leaving Chilocco, she then found employment in Tulsa. Geneva married and had children Alex and Mary. She married Algar Horsechief in the 1970’s and had children Edgar, William and Shannon. She was on the Seneca Indian School Board from 1977 to 1979. She loved helping Indian education, traveling and sometimes cooking. Working for the Pawnee Nation as the head cook. Yale High School Indian education and substitute teacher. She is preceded in death by son Edgar Horsechief and daughter Shannon, brothers Jimmy Rogers, Eugene Rogers, Joe Rogers, sisters Dollie Jan Teague, Pineville, MO and Mabel Toolate, Round Springs. She is survived by her husband Algar Horsechief, sons Alex and William, daughter Mary, brother Roy Roger and grandchildren.
