ELIZABETH JANE “BETSY”
CARTMELL
April 15, 1959--June 14, 2022
Betsy died very unexpectedly on June 14, 2022, at her home in Norman, OK. Betsy was born in Edmond, Oklahoma on April 15, 1959, to Larry W. Cartmell, Sr. and Betty Mitchell Cartmell. The family later lived in Oklahoma City before moving to Ada, for her father to practice medicine as a pathologist. She graduated from Ada High School in 1977 and went to college at Oklahoma State University, graduating from there with a B.S. degree. She subsequently attended The School of Nursing at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and was awarded an R.N. She nursed for a number of years before returning to school at the University of Oklahoma. At OU she enrolled in the School of Social Work and obtained her Masters degree (M.S.W.) Her activities as a Social Worker were most satisfying to her. The later years of her life were spent in early retirement. She enjoyed crafts and handwork, especially sewing which became quilt-making for her. She became skilled and often gifted friends and family with a quilt made just for them. During those years she was a member of a therapy group in which she was well-loved and will be sorely missed as she will be by the members of her family. Given that Betsy was such a dog-lover, in lieu of flowers please donate to your local animal shelter or the SPCA. She left behind her mother, Betty Mitchell Cartmell; and three brothers, Larry, Jr. (wife Terri); Mitchell (wife Karla); and Kendall, (wife Christine); one sister, Jenny Rajiv; two nieces, Lindsi Cartmell (husband Michael); and Rachel Cartmell; one nephew, Reid Cartmell (wife, Shelby); her aunt, Arlene Cartmell; many Cartmell cousins along with their children and grandchildren and a host of friends. Her father preceded her in death July 2016.The Memorial Service for Betsy will be conducted at Poteet’s Funeral Home in Pawnee, Oklahoma, on August 20, 2022, at 1:00 o’clock in the afternoon. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery, Pawnee, with a reception at Roam Chief Building, 810 Morris Rd., Pawnee.
