Edward Floyd Pratt

Edward Floyd Pratt began his Heavenly journey on Dec. 3, 2022, at his home in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Ed was born to Vernon and Dru Ella Welch Pratt, April 16, 1958, in Newport, Rhode Island. As a military family, they transferred often during his childhood. Ed and his siblings attended schools in Maine, Illinois, California, and in Oklahoma, attended El Reno, Riverside, Sequoyah, and Pawnee schools. Edward was a proud Marine, having enlisted in the USMC at the age of 17. He served at Camp Pendleton, Camp Lejeune, and Subic Bay. He attended Sharpshooter training and received a Marksman citation. He spoke fondly of his time in survival school training in the Philippines, where he connected with the local Indigenous trainers, who shared their traditional techniques of hunting and fishing with him. The experience led to a love of Asian food. Following discharge, he began his career as a city, and tribal police officer, later working as a welder for many years.

Eddie was known for his quick wit and sense of humor; he liked to laugh and tease hard. He was a gifted bead artist, and jewelry maker and had a remarkable ability to repair small intricate pieces such as watches, and vintage flint lighters. He was an avid reader and learner. He enjoyed blasting 70’s classic rock music loud, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple were some of his favorites. He was most at home in the woods, picking berries, hunting, looking for animal signs, and shared his love of fishing with family. Ed loved to cook for family, friends, and neighbors.

Edward was a member of the Pawnee and Cherokee tribes. He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Pratt, paternal grandparents, Harry and Lucy White Pratt; maternal grandparents Cornelius and Lillie Suake Welch.
