Edith Faye Cavett

Edith Faye Cavett, passed away in Wichita Falls, Texas on December 17,2019. She was born on June 22, 1936 in Muskogee Oklahoma to Forrest and Grace Driskell. Edith spent most of her summers growing up spending time in Kansas with her Aunt Opal and Uncle Willard who were very important parts of her life. Edith was raised in Okmulgee, Oklahoma where she graduated from high school in May of 1955. Edith met the love of her life, her soulmate, her senior year of high school James [Jim] Cavett, they were married on June 4, 1955. Jim and Edith lived in Stillwater, OK for a brief time before moving to Texas in 1958. They lived in Dallas and San Antonio Texas before finally settling in Harlingen TX in 1964 where they lived until her husband Jim’s death in 1975. I remember Edith use to tease Jim saying she would not move any farther south in Texas. Harlingen was just about 30 miles from the Mexican border. Together Edith and Jim had three children; Michael, Pamela and Curtis. After her husband’s passing Edith moved back to Stillwater OK in 1976. Edith lived in Stillwater until 2007 when she moved to Wichita Falls TX to be closer to her son and daughter in law Mike and Ardath Cavett. In 2013 she moved in with her son and daughter in law where she lived until a few months before her passing when her health could no longer permit her to live with them she moved into a nursing home for the last few months of her life. Edith loved working with children. She was a librarian assistant in both Harlingen, TX and Stillwater OK. While in Stillwater she was a huge part of the children’s programs at Southside Baptist Church. She spent a week every summer cooking and being a counselor for the church summer camp at Falls Creek. Edith’s favorite hobby was genealogy, she could spend hours tracking down relatives and was able to trace both her family and well as Jim’s family back to early ancestors. When the internet became available there was almost no stopping her. She dedicated years to her passion. She loved keeping up with old friends as well as family on Facebook. The other true love of her life was her grandchildren. She could not wait for her grandchildren to visit her. She was a very proud grandmother, or as she was referred to Me Maw. Edith was survived by her three children; Mike Cavett, Pamela Wilkes, and Curtis Cavett. Her daughter in law Ardath Cavett who was never a daughter in law to her but was always one of her children. Ardath from day one always held a very special place in Edith’s heart. Edith was also survived by her 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren with another one on the way, and 2 great grandchildren. Edith has one surviving sister and her husband Shirley and Danny Pigg. Edith was preceded in death by the love of her life, her soulmate her husband Jim. Both of her parents Forrest and Grace Driskell. Her mother and father in law Herschel and Leona Cavett. Two sisters Leda Petersen, and Wanda Stout. A sister in law Sharlena Cavett, brother in law Don Cavett. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter Brittany Jade Evans.
