Donald Lee Gates

Donald (Donnie) Lee Gates was born in Yale, Oklahoma on September 11, 1956 to Harvey and Mollie (Broughton) Gates has gone to be with the Lord January 3, 2022 at the age of 65.

Growing up he went to Yale Public School where he completed through 11th grade and later decided to enlist in the Army. Upon leaving the army he got engaged to Brenda Tatum and on May 27, 1982 she became his wife where they have been married ever since. He was also the father to two children Shane Gates and Tysa Gates.

Donnie loved to hunt and fish whether it was with his kids, grandkids, or his best friends Bobby Dale Neeley or Sam Dennis. He also loved his hot rod cars and trucks. He was also known by some as the gas guy. He always kept an extra 5 gal of gas siitting around for the people that would run out at his house. He loved his kids and grandkids, there wasn’t a thing he wouldn’t do for them.

Donnie is survived by his wife Brenda of the home, son Shane Gates and his wife Mary of Ponca City, daughter Tysa Gates and Jay Way, mother Mollie Gates of Yale, OK, sisters Carla Schonfield of Cushing, OK, Donna Baney and husband of Jennings, OK, Carol Rich of Yale OK, and Betty Cussner and husband Cushing, OK, 9 grandkids, 1 great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father Harvey Gates, father and mother in law Junior and Betty Jo Tatum, brother in law Cecil Schonfield, niece Becky Harris along with many of his best friends.

Memorial Services will be held at the First Assembly of God Church in Pawnee, OK on Friday, January 14, 2022 at 10:00 A.M..
