Damon Dennis Roughface, 59, was born on December 10, 1959 in Ponca City, Oklahoma to Paul and Clarabelle Roughface. Damon was the grandson of Mitchell Roy and Rose Primeaux Roy and Dennis Roughface and Alice DeLodge Smith. Damon passed from this life on August 19, 2019 in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Damon was a member of the Ponca Tribe of Oklahoma and was heavily involved with his culture and traditions. Damon attended Chilocco Indian School and later enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corps. After his time in the military, Damon attended Haskell Indian Nations and went on the pow wow trail where he became well known for his Traditional dancing. He went on to meet the love of his life, Francie, and they got married on July 25, 1987. Recently, they celebrated their 32nd anniversary. Damon and Francie welcomed their first son, Geoffrey, on July 25, 1989. Damon and Francie later went on to have 3 more children, Clara, Chloe, and Alex.
Damon also worked in law enforcement where he reached the rank of Chief of Police and criminal investigator for the Ponca Tribe of Oklahoma. At the time of his death, Damon was employed with the Otoe-Missouria Tribe as an HVAC Tech in the maintenance department. Damon proudly served as the Nu’ Da’ Honga of the Ponca Hethuska from 1995-2014 and made many life-long relationships. Damon enjoyed dancing, attending pow wows, spending time with his family, especially his two grandsons. Damon also enjoyed OU football, doing yard work, his many, many friendships, and cooking breakfast for his family.
Damon is preceded in his death by his father, Paul Roughface; mother, Clarabelle Roughface; son, Geoffrey Roughface; sisters, Denise Roughface and Cindy Harjo; and brother, Jake Roughface.
Damon is survived by his wife, Francie Roughface of the home; children, Clara Tucker and husband Brayden Tucker of Pawnee, OK, Chloe Roughface of Duncan, OK, and Alex Roughface of Norman, OK; Grandchildren, Ryker and Tripp Tucker of Pawnee, OK.; siblings, Matt Roughface of Anadarko, OK, Thomasine Arkeketa of White Eagle, OK, Adeline Roughface of White Eagle, OK, Yogi Roughface, Randy Roughface, and KC Roughface; Damon is also survived by a multitude of aunties, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Wake services will be held Tuesday and Wednesday at 7 p.m., the 20th & 21st, at the Ponca Indian United Methodist Church, with Pat Moore leading services. Sophia BigGoose will be officiating the Funeral services for Damon, which will be held at the Ponca Cultural Center in White Eagle, Oklahoma on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at 2 p.m.
