Clayton Charles Wilkinson, 78, went to be with his lord September 24, 2015, at Southern Oaks Care Center with his family by his side.
Clayton was born to Clayton Hurt and Isabelle (Prince) Wilkinson August 25, 1937, and was raised in Pawnee, graduating from Pawnee High School. After graduating from high school Clayton immediately joined the United States Air Force .While on leave in Oak Grove, Louisiana he met the Love of his life Paula White, they were married on December 18, 1960. Clayton and Paula were married 55 years at the time of his passing. Out of this union two boys were born Jeffrey and Richard, after 4 years in the United States Air Force the Wilkinson Family moved back to Oklahoma where Clayton started a career in public service working for the Ponca City Police Department, after 4 years he started working for the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety taking a position as a Drivers Examiner. The Department of Public Safety merged with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and Clayton started his career as an Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper, serving as a trooper was Clayton's first love, he loved protecting people by helping them to be safe, but he especially loved helping people who were in need on the Oklahoma Highways. Clayton cared so much for people that he once drove a stranded couple home to Paris, Texas because their car could not be fixed that day. Clayton was well liked by everyone who knew him and by those he met by circumstance .Clayton retired from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol in 1997 and settled in Glencoe. Clayton loved to Hunt and especially Target Shooting of any type, he was a member of the N.R.A. and the Retired Oklahoma Highway Patrol Association.
Clayton is survived by his wife; Paula of the Home, two sons; Jeffrey Wilkinson and wife Susan of Cheyenne Wyoming, Richard Wilkinson and wife Wendy of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 5 grand children Clayton, Angela, Jennifer, Samantha, Alex. Brother Mike Wilkinson of Pawnee, Oklahoma, Sister Katherine Doll of Glencoe, Oklahoma, Sister Linda Brim of Louisiana.
Clayton was preceded in death by Dad Clayton, Mother Isabella, Brother Bill Wilkinson
Services are Saturday 1:00 P.M. September 26, 2015, at the First Baptist Church in Glencoe, with Chaplain Sam Garner officiating. Internment will follow in the Highland Cemetery in Pawnee under the direction of Poteet Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Friends can leave a memory for the family at www.poteetfuneralhome.com
