• Blanche Matlock-Smith entered this world on Dec. 3, 1947 in Tahlequah, OK to Chauncey F Matlock and Adeline Cummings -Matlock and left on Dec.4, 2020 in Stillwater, OK. She was 73 years and one day old. She was one of the last full blood Pawnee. In high school Blanche was a Bowler, she ran Long Distance Cross Country and placed 1st Nationally in Baton Twirling. After graduating high school Blanche attended San Jose State University studying Electronic Assembly. Blanche worked many years as a title examiner for Texas Division of Motor Vehicles. Blanche also worked as a secretary for the Field Office of the Episcopal American Indians Ministries. She was the Pawnee Nation Tax Commissioner. She loved traveling, especially to New Mexico and Louisiana to see the hot air balloon festival and visit family. She loved watching movies on the Hallmark Channel. She collected everything teddy bear and loved Sonny and Cher’s “I got you babe”. She enjoyed Pow Wows and loved a good hand game. She was a member of the Eastern Stars. Blanche was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be greatly missed. Blanche is survived by her husband of 44 years Charles H. Smith of Pawnee, OK., daughter S. Renee Brown and husband Mike of Colorado Springs, CO., son Shawn Phillips and wife April of Sherman, TX., brother Sam Gardipe and wife Loretta of Tulsa, OK., Grandchildren Tyler Baze, Kelsie Brown, Kyle Phillips, Adam Sampson, Brittni Phillips, Bryton Phillips, Blake Osborn, Samantha Phillips and Lukas Phillips and 8 Great grandchildren, two cousins in Oklahoma Jean Kay Grant, Helen Pickering and Margaret Gayle Ahhaity, and numerous cousins in Louisiana. She is preceded in death by her parents Chauncey Matlock and Adeline Matlock, brothers Douglas Gardipe, George Gardipe and Cecil Gardipe.
Services will be held at graveside at the South Indian Cemetery in Pawnee, OK on Dec.10th at 10am. Officiating is Donnie Ahhaitty. Pallbearers are Kenneth McCosar, Tim Brown, Kyle Phillips, Bryton Phillips, Blake Osborn, Xavier Horsechief and Lukas Phillips.
