Beverly L. BigSoldier Plumley Zotigh was born in Pawnee, Oklahoma on March 2nd, 1937 to Earl BigSoldier Plumley and Dollie Garcia Plumley. She entered into rest Thursday, September 28, 2017 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was Otoe Missouria and Bear Clan on her fathers side. She is a member of the Pawnee Tribe and is from the Skedee Band.
Beverly married Glover Zotigh, a full blooded Kiowa and was married to him for 38 years , until his death in 1995.
Beverly raised numerous children in the course of her life. Many were drawn to her for her loving and carried demeanor. In her life, she served the church as an ordained Elder, a Youth Sponsor, a Band Parent, Indian Education President and many others things. In addition she started the tradition of giving Christmas gifts to the children at the Otoe Eloska Christmas Dance.
She loved life. She loved her Native Traditions and wanted them to continue for all generations to come. As the child of the founders for the Oklahoma City PowWows, this was important to her. Beverly was raised in both the Otoe and Pawnee traditions and was the Pawnee Tribal Princess in 1955. She learned how to cook for all occasions including Peyote and was a past member of the Native American Church.
Beverly retired from Boatmans Bank as an International Banker in 1993. Never one to sit back, she used those skills to do 10 years of volunteer work for Mercy Hospice. After that, she worked part-time in Tax Compliance for the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission until March 2017.
Beverly encouraged her children to learn the Traditions but, also to get education & have experiences in the world through travel, art and music.
Beverly is preceded in death by her parents Earl and Dollie BigSoldier Plumley, brothers Lelus Plumley & Ronnie Plumley, sister Earlene Plumley, husband Glover Zotigh and numerous cousins.
Survivors include Albin Zotigh & Ward Kays, OKC, Randal & Janet Zotigh & Kevin Parker, the Village, Randal Zotigh II, Taylor Zotigh & Kyle, OKC, Andrew & Ambresha Zotigh & Alea, OKC, Chris & Maggie Plumley & Bennie,Earl Jr. and Diane Plumley & Michael and Erin of Tecumseh, Hayden & Madison Plumley, of Cyril, Grant & Heather Cotany, Melanie, Dakota & Jordan and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held 10:00 A.M., Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the Pawnee Nation Roam Chief Event Center, Pawnee, Oklahoma, interment at the Highland Cemetery, Pawnee, Oklahoma under the direction of the Poteet Funeral Home & Cremations.
