Alford James Majors, age 74, passed away on December 5, 2018, after an extended hospital stay.
Alford was born on March 10, 1944 in Pawnee, Oklahoma to James Clifford Majors and Alta Marie (Clayton) Majors. He attended Pawnee Public Schools, graduated from Pawnee High School in 1963 and joined the National Guard. He married Patty (Pat) Sue Baker, on December 9, 1963 and they had two sons, James Eldon Majors and David Lee Majors.
Alford was most well known for being the Mayor of Pawnee for 20 years. He loved his hometown and spent many years working and volunteering in Pawnee as an EMT, dispatcher, weather spotter, National Weather Service volunteer, Assistant Fire Chief for 5 years, and a volunteer firefighter for 20 years. His commitment to service continued at Oklahoma State University as he worked night shift security for 11 years. Alford will be remembered as a caring, generous man who truly loved Pawnee and those who call it home.
Through the years, Alford enjoyed going camping with his family, hunting and fishing with family and friends, as well as tending to his small herd of cattle.
Alford is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patty Majors; his son, James Majors, plus many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his son, David Majors; his parents, James C. and Alta Majors; his sister, Carolyn Vickers; and his brother, Ricky Majors.
Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Eshelman Chapel, Highland Cemetery, Pawnee, Oklahoma. Services were entrusted to Poteet Funeral Home and Cremation Services, friends can leave a memory for the family at www.poteetfuneralhome.com
